Quedgeley leave it late.

Quedgeley went into this evening fixture knowing only a win would do in there quest for promotion.
The game got underway with quedgeley having the upper hand for the first 10 minutes. A small amount of goal scoring opportunities fell the way of the home side with Golden and Skipp creating chances. It was the first real goal threat that fell to Abbeymead who made an opening which saw there cf denied by the good hands of Sparrow who got down well to deny the lad his chance.

It was then the turn of the home side who were rewarded with a free kick some 30yrds out on the left. Skipp delivered a great cross which saw Benard challenge the visiting gk which opened up the path for taitt who made no mistake in finishing with a header into the bottom corner.

1.0 and with this scoreline QWFC defended well as Abbeymead looked for the equiliser. The visiting side kept the ball well yet really posed any real threat on the back line which was brilliantly marshalled by Dyke and Rouse.

Half time came with the scoreline still the same and both sides evenly matched.

The second half saw Abbeymead again keeping the ball and this time were begining to get on top as they searched for the equliser. The goal came with 25 gone on the clock in the second half and this came via an own goal!
A corner was conceeded and the ball that was delivered was into the front post which was guarded by two defenders but a lack of communication saw Rouse knock the ball into the net at a sluggish pace.

1.1

A point was never going to be enough and the hard working midfielders, notably Taitt,Phillips and Lee worked that extra bit of workrate and creativity which started to expose the visiting left back allowing Golden to deliver some excellent balls into the box only for Benard to just put wide or at the keeper. Benard never stopped trying to get onto the end of these deliveries yet it was not to be his day on this ocassion.

With the clock ticking towards 90 minutes, Rigby started to press forward and his overlapping runs began to hurt the visitors. The delivers from Lee and Phillips kept this attack alive and finally we got our reward.

A corner was earnt and Rigby deliverd a sublime corner kick into the crowded box and found the head of Rouse who rose like a salmon. 2.1 with moments left to play....

Abbeymead came to spoil the party and tried they did but the desire and never give up attitude came good in the end.
If your going to win games then this is the way to finish these tight games.

MOTM has to go to Taitt for his continual drive and determination which is an example to all. Everyone who played in this game can take great pride in winning a game in such a manner and now takes the side another step closer to there ultimate goal.
