Missed chances sink Wanderers

Quedgeley were unlucky to lose their second game of the season after back-to-back wins against a well organised Horsley side, who maintained their 100% start to the season.

Quedgeley started the game brightly and dominated procession in midfield, whilst looking tight at the back. Ant Sparrow saw an effort from 25yards wrong foot the keeper and seem destined for the net but the ball bounced back of the foot of the post. Quedgeley again came close but a James Mulrain free kick was turned around the post by the keeper's legs and Horsley defended a Matt Banks long throw well. The 1st half was a tight even contest with very little between the two sides. It looked as though it was going take something special to break down either side. The breakthrough came on the stroke of half-time when Steve Bridall's short back pass was pounced upon and the home team's midfielder finished well.

The second half began and it remained a tight affair. Quedgeley should have levelled on the hour mark when Dean Hankins' pinpoint cross from the right hand side was headed wide from 6 yards by Scott Gardiner. As the game became stretched Steve Sparrow made a couple of decent saves but in the end it was just not to be for Quedgeley and they did not come away with the point they deserved and Horsley kept their third clean sheet in 3 games.
