An improved performance bags all 3 points.

After losing the opening game of the season Quedgeley bounced back with a hard fought and deserved victory over Whiteshill.

Wanderers began the game in terrific fashion and only a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping prevented Chris Riley and Nick Thorne giving Quedgeley the lead.

Riley's battling and strength caused the Whiteshill defence problems all afternoon and after good hold up play he teed up Matt Banks who scored with a rocket from 25yards into the top corner. It was nothing more than Quedgeley deserved.

To their credit Whiteshill battled back strongly and pressed Quedgeley onto the back foot and deservedly equalised when their attacker found himself with plenty of freedom in the penalty area and slotted the ball home.

The second half began and Quedgeley were unfortunate to lose Ant Sparrow to injury early on. Riley was again causing problems and from a long Matt Banks throw his knock down landed at the right foot of Dean Hankins who made no mistake from 12 yards.

Quedgeley so nearly made it 3 when Hankins went on a mazy run down the left beat three defenders and cut back for Riley who was inches away from heading home.
Strong defending at the back from the returning Mulrain and debutant Steve Fitt, along with Steve Bridal and Shaun Banner meant there was little pressure put on Steve Sparrow's goal and and when there was he was more than up to it.

So first 3 points of the season and surely on this evidence more to come sooner rather than later.

M.O.M Steve Fitt - Terrific debut from new centre half
